Mally Beauty Shimmer, Shape, & Glow Face Defining System.jpeg
Mally Beauty Shimmer, Shape, & Glow Face Defining System

Perhaps, you're looking for a great multipurpose compact that will streamline your beauty routine with gorgeous natural-looking color.  If so, then you will love the Shimmer, Shape & Glow Face Defining System from Mally Beauty that I was sent for this review and giveaway.

This is a fabulous compact of a blush, highlight, and a contour powder that will deliver sheer healthy radiance like a stream of glowing light to really accent your facial structure.  This system comes in light and dark peach and pink tones.  Instead of needing to depend on your own brushes, this compact comes with all the brushes you need for pulling this off.  You get a fluffy blush brush and a double ended brush with white bristles for applying the shimmering highlighting powder and the dark bristles to use with the darker powder for slimming.  It also comes with its own soft suede-like case to store it in.

Having a warm light skin tone, I asked to try the Peach Fair (Light is Lighter).  The peach colors were natural and subtle with a delicate emphasis of glowing light from the highlighter.  Unlike typical contouring powders that can leave you with dirty looking splotches of brown as you attempt to hollow out cheekbones, this was more of a realistic darker beige.

I think I could have been just as happy using any of the darker versions of this compact because of the lovely transparency of the shades.  In fact, I would love to try the darker version of the Peach Deep (Love is Deeper) in the future so I could compare which was a nicer effect.

I really think this is wonderful compact to have.  I think you will be pleased at the results. In addition, you'll also save money from buying a separate highlighter, a contour, and brushes just with this one product.

Thanks to Mally Beauty, one lucky Nuts 4 Stuff reader in the continental United States wins a Shimmer, Shape, & Glow Face Defining System from Mally Beauty ($40 value).

Try My Delectable Buttermilk Pies and Live It Up!

Buttermilk pies?  At first, the thought may sound terribly unappetizing to those who never sampled their exotic flavor before.  However, these simple pies, which originated years ago in Southern kitchens, consist of an incredibly delicious custard-like texture unlike any other you tasted in the past.

Furthermore, these pies take no work to throw together.  The hardest part is assembling the ingredients.  Once you mix and beat everything, you pour into your pie shell and just wait while the kitchen fills with that heavenly aroma of cinnamon or lemon.

The first recipe I want to share with you is for my best old-fashioned buttermilk pie.  The light hint of cinnamon added to the buttermilk does something special to enhance the flavor of its creamy goodness.

On the other hand, the second recipe is just as wonderful--only in a different way to please your taste buds with lemon and grated lemon peel or lemon extract.  This recipe that I call my favorite Deep-South buttermilk pie has just enough of a tang to the sweetness for an exciting kick of flavor.

You'll need to a prepare a 10-inch pie shell.  Seriously, readers, if you want a dependable and easy pie crust that you can use for a variety of purposes, then I really encourage you to make my oil pie crust recipe, which is the only crust recipe I use these days.  You can use this oil crust for either size of 10-inch or 9-inch, just roll or pat it out thinner.

Besides, oil is a healthier grease to work with than partially hydrogenated shortening so I really wish you will try this.  Trust me, once you do finally make this crust for yourself you will be just as nuts about it as I am for how flaky it is.

Think of all the money you'll save from buying those packaged pie shells.  Like I mentioned, this is a treasure of a recipe that can be used for dessert shells, pot pies, and even quiche that can be whipped up to salvage leftovers into a new dinner or those garden vegetables for a wonderful quiche quickly and so on.

My Best Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Pie

1 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of flour
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
3 eggs
dash of salt
2 cups of buttermilk
2 tablespoons of margarine (not spread)
1 unbaked 10-inch pie shell

Beat the eggs first with electric mixture.  Then add the other ingredients and beat in to mix well.

Pour into the unbaked 10-inch pie shell and bake at 425-degree oven for 15 minutes and then reduce the oven to 350-degrees and continue baking for about 45 minutes or until a thin knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

The top will be a light honey color.  Cool and then refrigerate to serve cold.

My Favorite Deep-South Buttermilk Pie

4 eggs
3/4 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of flour
1-1/2 cups of buttermilk
1/4 cup of margarine, melted (not spread)
grated peel of 1 lemon or 1 teaspoon of lemon extract
3 tablespoons of lemon juice (fresh is best but the bottled works also)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell

Beat the eggs and sugar together until light and lemon-colored with your electric mixture.  Beat in your flour, then buttermilk, melted margarine, lemon peel or extract, juice, and vanilla.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 20-30 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and serve this pie also cold.

Celebrate the Weekend With My Easy Oatmeal Snack Cake!

The weekend always is the time for fun and treating yourself and the family to something delicious after a week of working hard and watching your diet.  I say what can be better than a quick snack cake that is simple to mix up and does not need icing?

Oatmeal in this cake gives a bit of protein and almost a nutty sort flavor while bringing a moistness to this recipe to make it a great keeper and one that will also freeze well.  Although, if truth is known, I doubt that this cake will last that long since it is that yummy and hard to resist.

Another thing you can do with my recipe is rotating the spices for a few different varieties of this one cake.   Besides the suggestions below, I  have added one half a teaspoon of vanilla and substituted one half teaspoon of almond extract  or anise extract and with one teaspoon nutmeg instead of any cinnamon makes a scrumptious combination.

One last warning that I have is in regard to the margarine.  Make sure that you do not attempt to bake with anything labeled spread instead of margarine.  A spread has too much water content and will ruin your baking so do check your margarine. I do hope when the mood strikes for your own weekend indulgence that you will make my recipe.

Now that the coffee is nearly ready, I think I will say good-bye and sneak a piece of this cbefore the family attacks and will force me to build a new one.

My Easy Oatmeal Snack Cake

1 cup of quick oats
1-1/2 cups of boiling water
1 stick of margarine or 1/2 cup  (not spread)
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon or 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1-1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

First:  Pour 1-1/2 cups of boiling water over 1 cup of quick oats and put this aside for about 20 minutes.

Cream together and add to the oatmeal mixture the margarine, sugars, and eggs (one at a time), and vanilla.

Sift together the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.

Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

A Cheap Way to Brighten Your Smile With Fruit That Works!

Who would ever think that fresh strawberries and a little baking soda would have the power to effectively whiten teeth?  Though it sounds rather unusual, I thought it was probably a more pleasant way to brighten than with those pasty whitening strips that make you want to gag after a while.  At least, this is my experience with those commercial whitening products.

I cut one small strawberry in half.  I ate one half and mashed the other with about one half of teaspoon or just enough to make a paste.  I dabbed some of this paste on my finger and rubbed it on my teeth.  I kept repeating this trying to use up my strawberry paste but did as much as I could before brushing my teeth with my normal toothpaste.

Believe it or not, I checked the color of my teeth and they were amazingly brighter.  I will definitely be doing the strawberry-baking soda brightening treatment again.

However, one half of a strawberry and about the same amount of baking soda was enough to do at least two mouths.  You'll need to adjust the amount to suit yourself.  Next time, I will cut it so I eat more of the strawberry because it was bit too much before it becomes irritating.

I happened to hear this wonderful tip on Dr. Oz's television show.  If you want to see something remarkable, then put this natural remedy to whiten your own teeth to the test.  Trust me, readers, you will get a prettier smile and save yourself some money in the process instead of suffering with those pasty whitening strips.

Judith August Cosmetics The Everything and EraseZit Concealer Pencils Review + Giveaway! (2 Winners)--Ends May 15, 2012

Judith August Cosmetics The Everything and EraseZit Concealer Pencils.jpeg
Judith August Cosmetics The Everything and EraseZit Concealer Pencils

Most of us have little imperfections we would like to hide.  So when I had the opportunity to try out two types of concealer pencils from Judith August Cosmetics, I was eager to see how these would perform on my own flaws.

The first one I worked with was their best-selling face and body concealer, The Everything Pencil in Pure Beige (light to medium).  Usually buying a thick pencil means you need to dish out more money for a special sharpener.  However, this pencil comes with a free sharpener, which was nice.

As to the product itself, I found it was easy to apply with wonderful coverage as a result of the aloe vera and vitamin E in the formula without tugging on that delicate under eye area.   You can also use the pencil to banish scars, age spots, birthmarks or bruises with confidence that they'll stay hidden.  This pencil comes in five other shades to handle all complexions and sells for $16.00.

Another wonderful way to hide a blemish and heal it at the same time was with the Judith August Cosmetics EraseZit Pencil.  This is an amazing antiseptic concealer and corrector product in one, which treats with tea tree oil and camphor.  This pencil comes in two shade varieties--Neutral (Original) for light medium to medium dark complexion (that I picked) and their new Neutral Light for light to light medium.  Both varieties also come with a sharpener and also retail for $16.00.

I didn't have a blemish for this review, but I think having a product with the ability to protect you from a possible infection from dabbing the product on a pimple is something to consider.  I used to always break out with a giant zit on my nose every time I was about to go on an important job interview.  This pencil would have been a better alternative to the infected aftermath of my work trying to hide that embarrassing problem perched at the tip of my nose as I sat across from the potential employer.

If you're one of the lucky beautiful people, do ignore products such as these.  However, if you're like me and the majority of the world, then do visit Judith August Cosmetics and check these pencils out because they have my vote of confidence.

Thanks to Judith August Cosmetics, two lucky Nuts 4 Stuff readers in the United States or Canada wins both The Everything Pencil and the EraseZit Pencil ($32 value)!

Faith Hill True Perfume Review

**Disclaimer:  This post has been compensated through a free product (s) or monetary payment.  Opinions are solely mine. All links are "no-follow" links.**

Faith Hill True Perfume.jpeg
Faith Hill True Perfume

True is the second fragrance from superstar celebrity, Faith Hill on behalf of Coty Beauty.  And just like the gorgeous country singer, this fresh floral scent captures the casual side of her utterly feminine and effervescent personality to play a beautiful melody once it hits the air.

Like the name itself, True opens with clean burst of Japanese yuzu keeping the sweet song of the floral pure and softly balanced against the watery notes with a delicate infusion of sheer mimosa, white lily, and gardenia for romance.

As the fragrance warms, True reveals a natural sensuality that tempts with musk, sandalwood and precious woods the more it dries down. This is subtle seduction at its best!

Those that love a light floral will loose themselves to the serene loveliness of this aquatic floating feeling of this fragrance with the inner peace that True radiates.  So if you're still undecided about an ideal fragrance to gift your Mother with for this Mother's Day, then I know she would be pleased with anything from the True line like the 1.7 oz. Eau de Toilette Spray that I reviewed.

Bananas for Handbags Mackenzie Shoulder Bag.jpeg
Bananas for Handbags Mackenzie Shoulder Bag

What is it about the right accessory that can completely change an outfit?  A great pair of shoes or the perfect handbag can add style as well as function to really shake things up fashion wise like the beautiful selection of reasonably priced handbags from Bananas for Handbags.

I was sent the Mackenzie Shoulder Bag in black.  As I examined this bag and its construction, I thought it looked much more expensive than their selling price of $55.95.  This is a very spacious faux leather type of bag (17" x 10.5" x 6.5") that has a deep compartment that you can easily stuff a sweater with wonderful room, an interior wall pocket with a zipper and a cell phone holder complete with secure zippered closure.  What else I loved about this bag was changeable handles that it came with that gives me the freedom to carry it in my hands instead of on the shoulder and was a comfortable lighter weight.

I was so impressed with the quality of my bag that I wanted to see what their other bags were like and the prices.  And let me tell you what I found out in my exploration of their website will please you too.  Wow, Bananas for Handbags knows how to please us, ladies.  They had everything from gorgeous animal print bags, business bags, clutches/evening bags, crossbody bags, hobo bags, satchels, shoulder bags, tote bags, and even backpacks to suit all our womanly whims!

Are you still confused about what would be a good gift to buy Mom  this Mother's Day or something for yourself?  I highly recommend a visit to Bananas for Handbags because you'll find a nice handbag at a very affordable price.  I know I intend to go back!

*Disclaimer:  This is my own honest opinion. Although I received a free product to facilitate this review, I was under no obligation to write a positive.*

Celebrate Legendary Singer, Roy Orbison's Birthday With the Pretty Woman T-Shirt Prize Package Giveaway!--Ends May 10, 2012

Pretty Woman T-Shirt.jpeg
Pretty Woman T-Shirt

Today would have been Roy Orbison's 76th birthday.  Although the chart-topping singer's life ended much too soon due to a heart attack at the age of 52, his legacy of songs will continue to live on forever.

Roy and Barbara Orbison.jpeg
Roy and Barbara Orbison

His voice and emotions reflected his own personal tragedies and pain as well as his dreams and later happiness with his second wife, Barbara.  She was his bright life and the inspiration for, perhaps, one of his best remembered hits--Oh, Pretty Woman.   A few of his other smash songs include Only the Lonely and Crying.  To discover more, go to the official Roy Orbison website for loads of information and songs.

Even before Barbara married Roy, she had formulated a fragrance but put it on the backburner to immerse herself in the music business with her husband.  After his death, she returned to taking her vision further of a perfume that could make every woman feel like a pretty woman and finished developing Pretty Woman perfume.

Pretty Woman is a haunting melody of floral, wood, and exotic spices to play over and over in your mind like a song that you never want to stop that is currently on giveaway.  With notes of rose, star gazer lily, amber patchouli, vanilla, bergamot, there is sweetness as well as freshness until the rich woods, amber, and incense warm for a lingering seductive heat.
*Disclaimer:  This is my own honest opinion.  Although I  received free products to facilitate this review,  I was under no obligation to write a positive one.*

Treat Yourself to My Fluffy Pineapple Bars!

As I have mentioned, I try to maintain as healthy a diet as I can during the week.  However, the weekends are when we reward ourselves with sweets.  This usually means I am experimenting with new recipes to bake up something delicious like the recipe that I have for you today.

Those fans of pineapple will go wild over this simple to create bar cookie.  This has a pie like bottom crust with a gooey middle layer of pineapple topped with a fluffy meringue.

So when you need to indulge your sweet tooth, I do hope you'll give my recipe a shot because I think you'll love it!

My Fluffy Pineapple Bars

Cookie Dough:

2 sticks (1 cup) of margarine (not spread)
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons of vegetable shortening
3 egg yolks
2 teaspoons of baking powder
2 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Cookie Topping:

1 large can crushed pineapple (1 lb. 4 oz.)
3 tablespoons of cornstarch
5 tablespoons of sugar

Meringue Layer:

4 egg whites (3 egg whites work, but one more puffs it to new height like a cloud)
1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch
4 tablespoons of sugar

To prepare cookie dough:

Cream together margarine, sugar and shortening.  Add egg yolks and continue beating until light and fluffy textured.

Sift together:  flour, baking powder, and salt.  Add milk and vanilla.  Add this to the creamed mixture and beat until well combined. (This mixture will be very sticky!)

Lightly greased your baking pan (approximately 15 x 11 x 2") and bake this dough for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

To prepare the topping:

Cook topping ingredients until thickened and clear colored.  Spread over your baked cookie-cake.

To prepare the meringue layer:

Beat the egg whites with cornstarch, add the sugar, a very little at a time.  Adding too much at once can cause the meringue to fail.

Once the meringue is fluffy spread on top of the topping layer.  Bake again for about 3 minutes or until the meringue is lightly browned.

Make My Delicious Protein-Packed Bread Pudding!

Today, I have a wonderful recipe as well as a great way to finish any stale bread you may want to get rid with my favorite bread pudding.  Not only does this dessert taste incredible, it also is loaded with protein from cottage cheese, eggs, and milk to make it even better.

To give a different flavor twist to this pudding, you can switch out your flavors of extracts.  Lemon extract will add an interesting change with or without the cinnamon. Yet that extract is only one of many that you can play with to reinvent this.

Adding dried fruits is another yummy option.  One-half cup of snipped dates or raisins is something you should try.

So the next time you have some bread you would like to use up, I do hope you will try my recipe because it is truly delicious!

My Best Bread Pudding

1-1/2 cups of cream-style cottage cheese
3/4 cup of milk
2 eggs
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of melted margarine or canola oil
4 slices of bread, cut into small cubes (2-1/2 cups)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Get out your blender or food processor and blend the cottage cheese, milk, eggs, sugar, melted margarine or oil, cinnamon, and vanilla together until smooth.

Lightly grease a 1-1/2 quart size casserole dish or baking pan .  Add your bread cubes and stir in to moisten.

Let this stand for about 15 minutes; stir another time.

Set the pan in a larger one in your oven.  Pour about an inch of boiling water along the sides of that larger pan to surround your pudding mixture.

Bake at 350-degree oven for about 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve this warm or cold.  Enjoy!

Crabtree & Evelyn's Wisteria Perfume.jpeg
Crabtree & Evelyn's Wisteria Perfume

For those that say you cannot buy happiness, then I must disagree.  After all, Crabtree & Evelyn's newest fragrance only recently launched.  I assure you that once you smell this romantic treasure of their Wisteria that feeling of happiness will carry you with it to your private garden in the English countryside where you'll rein like a queen over the tranquil beauty of those blue blossoms until you're almost giddy with pleasure.

This is the perfect, light floral fragrance for anyone with need of an escape and a mood lifter. Those wisteria blossoms are enhanced with gardenia and ylang ylang blossoms to add to that romantic feeling and accented with fresh fruity notes of mandarin and nashi pears for more sparkle.  A hint of airy musk for gentle seduction emerges once it dries down to make this simply impossible to resist.

Sweeter still, Crabtree & Evelyn's Wisteria Eau de Toilette that I was sent for this review and giveaway is free of parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, or propylene glycol.

I can't say enough of how much I love this bright fragrance and know you would agree with me once you get a whiff for yourself.

If you're unsure about that new scent to pick up for Mom for this Mother's Day, then Crabtree & Evelyn's Wisteria Eau de Toilette definitely should be on your radar.  This scent is available in body lotion, cream, and matching bath gel as well.  Trust me, readers, this one is a winner!

EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Bathroom Scale Review and Giveaway! ($99.95)--Ends May 7, 2012

EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Bathroom Scale.jpeg
EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Bathroom Scale
EatSmart is paving the way to better fitness.  Their Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Bathroom Scale is light years ahead of ordinary bathroom scales with all the important health measurements it can read besides calculating weight.

I am still amazed at what this compact machine that I was sent for this review and giveaway does every time I step on it.  Simply put, this scale uses bio-electrical impedance analysis technology to determine your body fitness when you input your information such as gender, height, age, activity level and your weight.

Though complicated sounding, this scale is easy to operate.  You weigh yourself first thing in the morning, preferably in bare feet.  You can keep your socks and shoes on, but this will only show your weight.

Later in the evening before dinner, step on that scale again without socks.  It will calculate body fat, total body water (about 45-65 percent of your total body weight), muscle mass (which is usually between 25-75 percent), and bone mass (usual range from 4 lbs.-8.5 lbs.).

However, anyone that has any implanted medical devices should not use this scale since it can interfere with such things as pacemakers, metal plates, screws or even contraceptive devices so keep that in mind.

For everyone else, this scale can be important as you age, especially for women, losing bone and muscle mass as a result of menopause.  Using this product, you can keep a tab of how your body is doing in those departments before your next doctor's appointment.

Anyone on blood pressure medicine or antihistamines for instance that rid them of water will also find this scale wonderful.  This scale can make sure your body is hydrated enough so you don't run into a problem.

If you want the perfect gift for Mother's Day to express your love, then I highly recommend presenting Mom with this EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Bathroom Scale.  Show her that you want her around for a long time and do pick this truly amazing scale up.

The whole family can take advantage of better health with this one gift.  This scale keeps tracks of up to seven different people so do keep this mind as well.

MyBody Anti-Aging Skin Care Products Review

**Disclaimer:  This post has been compensated through a free product (s) or monetary payment.  Opinions are solely mine. All links are "no-follow" links.**

MyBody Anti-Aging Skin Care Products.jpeg
MyBody Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

You can reclaim your skin's radiance with regular use of this amazing trio of MyBody Anti-Aging products that I have been using for nearly six weeks now.  I received the myHero Anti-Aging Growth Factor Serum, Youthifeye, and their Clean Routine Revitalizing Foaming Cleanser to evaluate.

From the moment you start using the Clean Routine Cleanser, you notice how gently this product cares for even the most sensitive skin without robbing your complexion of moisture, only adding more softness with lauric acid, vitamin E, and aloe vera.  In addition, this product quickly dissolves dirt and makeup while being beneficial with retino-peptide to speed up retinoid activity for cell turnover for better skin tone and texture.

The Youthifeye will become your new best friend once you see how this product works with several treatments in one.  With retinol and such wonders as the latest eye friendly peptide of eyeliss and haloxyl, you will watch over time how much better your eye area will appear as those dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines somehow magically no longer seem to plague you.

MyHero Anti-Aging Growth Factor Serum helps promote cell growth to stimulate IGF-1 (Insulin Growth Factor) and collagen production.  Simply speaking, this stuff delivers as it firms, tightens, and brightens to diminish those effects of aging.  Nonetheless, it does come with a price of $225 for 1-oz.  But if you can afford it, then this is unbelievably fabulous

These are exceptional products from MyBody (now Glowbotics MD) that would make some lucky Mother a wonderful gift this Mother's Day.  Do check this site and their amazing line of other products.

*Disclaimer:  This is my own honest opinion.  No money was exchanged.  All I received was free products to facilitate this review.*

An Easy Way to Clean and Still Beautify Your Hands!

Let's face it.  Our hands take a lot of abuse when you clean and handle all that other fun stuff involved with housekeeping.  Unless you are privileged enough to have someone else do all of that for you, then your hands constantly are prone to suffer from dryness, cracking, and chipped or broken fingernails.

Despite this depressing reality, there is still hope to get your beautiful hands back.   This simple trick will also help keep them in that condition while still doing your routine cleaning.

Here's what I have been doing lately.  Take out your rubber gloves and an old pair of gloves.  Before you put them on, you need to slather on a heavy duty coating of lotion.  You don't have to put on second pair of gloves, but I do. Once you start to work, the heat from your skin will warm the lotion so it will penetrate deeper to repair the dryness while protecting your hands from further damage, especially from the onslaught of chemicals in cleaning products.

By the time you finish with your chores, your treated hands will be saved from more redness, cracked fingernails to become smoother, softer and lovely once again.  Do try this little trick and you will see a wonderful difference.

Do You Want a Tasty Solution to Use That Leftover Easter Ham and Turkey?

If you're tired of those same ways to finish off that leftover ham or turkey still sitting in your refrigerator, then I two delicious recipes to share that will help you solve your problem.  This first recipe is a simple hearty casserole with a combination of seasonings that will elevate it into an elegant Cajun main dish.

The second recipe is geared toward getting rid of your ham and will transform those leftovers into a new oven casserole with kielbassa and beans that is so amazing with a lightly seasoned tomato sauce that you will not recognize it.  After you make this, you will look forward to leftover ham and welcome the opportunity to have this dish again.

So don't get disgusted with those leftovers because you will be pleasantly surprised once you try these recipes for yourself.

My Cajun Surprise

1-1/2 cups of diced cooked ham
1 cup of chopped onion (1 large)
3/4 cup chopped celery
1 green pepper, cut into strips
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon of salt
1 can of tomato sauce (15 ounces)
3 cups of chopped cooked turkey or chicken
1/2 cup uncooked rice (regular variety)
2 tablespoons of minced parsley
2 tablespoons of canola or olive oil
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon of dried thyme leaves
1/4 teaspoon of Worchestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
1 teaspoon of sugar

Brown your onion, celery, green pepper, and garlic in a large skillet in the oil until onion is golden brown and then stir in your ham.  Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil.  Cover; simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally until the rice cooks and the flavors are well combined.

My Favorite French Oven Stew

4 cups of water
1 lb. of dried Great Northern or Navy Beans (2-1/2 cups)
4 carrots, sliced
2 medium onions, diced
2 cloves of garlic, fined diced
2 bay leaves
1 can of tomato sauce (15 ounce size)
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon of dry mustard
1/4 cup of flour
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
3 cups of leftover ham pieces, chopped
1 lb.  (or less) kielbassa, cut into pieces
3 tablespoons of canola oil or olive oil

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

Heat water and beans (that you soaked overnight)  to boiling in your Dutch oven or large pot; boil about two minutes.  Remove from the heat; cover and let stand one hour.  Add enough water to the cover beans if needed.  Heat to boiling; reduce heat.  Cover and simmer until almost tender about 1-1/2 hours. (Be sure not to boil or your beans will burst now).  Drain.

Brown your onion and other chopped vegetables in the oil till golden brown and your chopped kielbassa pieces until the vegetables are tender.  Take this off of the heat and stir in the flour to coat everything.

In a large Dutch oven or 4-quart casserole, place this cooked mixture and all the remaining ingredients together.  Cover and cook at 325 degree oven for about an hour.  Remove the cover and cook an additional 30 minutes more.

Try My Best Homemade Carrot Pie!

If you never tried a carrot pie, then you have been missing out on something extraordinary.  This pie is on the order of a creamy pumpkin pie only with a lighter texture.  Trust me, dear readers, no one will be able to refuse to eat their veggies when you serve this.

This is especially nice to make when those bags of carrots in the crisper are starting to get old.  All you do is clean and then cook and throw everything in your food processor or blender to combine before turning into your favorite unbaked pie crust.  This carrot pie is a tasty way to salvage them.

If you haven't tried my oil pie crust, I really hope you will.  Honestly, this particular recipe for crust always turns out so fear not!  You have my promise.  The oil pie crust is the only one I make these days for dessert pies, pot pie crusts, and even crusts for quiche.  It is so flaky and you never have to worry about overworking the dough that can turn your crust tough.  Believe me, but I have made plenty of those before finding this treasure of a recipe.  Besides, baking with canola oil or olive oil (for pot pie or quiche versions) is healthier than shortening.

Do try this delicious pie for your weekend splurge.  Once you taste it, you will be so glad you did!

My Simple Carrot Pie

1 lb. of fresh cooked, drained carrots
1/2 cup of sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1-3/4 cups of milk
unbaked 9" pie shell

Clean your carrots before cooking them until softened.  Drain.

Now combine everything into your food processor or blender and whip until smooth.

Pour into your unbaked and greased 9-inch pie shell.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.  Then lower the oven to 300 degrees for 50 more minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
